Got               the               rainy               day               blues?

Here               are               some               great               ideas               for               keeping               kids               happy               and               busy               when               they               are               stuck               inside               due               to               bad               weather.

1.

Board               games.

These               can               be               fun               for               the               whole               family               and               will               certainly               keep               the               kids               occupied               for               hours               at               a               time.

Pick               a               game               that               is               easy               for               your               child               to               play               at               his               educational               level.

Good               games               for               younger               kids               include               sorry,               shoots               and               ladders               or               candy-land.

Older               kids               and               even               adults               will               enjoy               classics               like               monopoly,               life               or               trivial               pursuit.

Hold               tournaments               for               several               children               with               board               games               like               checkers               or               chess,               invite               the               neighbors               over               and               enjoy               some               adult               company               while               their               children               join               in               the               tournament.

Prizes               can               include               anything               from               a               day               excused               from               chores               to               special               treats               and               the               extra               incentive               will               keep               them               interested               in               the               games.

Don't               have               any               board               games?

No               problem.

There               are               literally               hundreds               of               online               kid's               activity               sites               where               you               can               find               and               print               your               own               board               games,               just               cut               out               and               color               the               pieces               for               hours               of               fun.



               2.

Cards.

Many               varieties               of               card               games               can               be               found               on               the               local               dime               store               shelf.

If               the               kids               aren't               old               enough               to               play               with               a               regular               deck               of               cards               there               are               group               games               like               uno,               go               fish,               old               maid               and               even               memory               match               cards.
               3.

Puzzles               and               coloring               pages.

A               great               way               to               keep               solitary               children               occupied               is               to               present               them               with               a               great               new               puzzle               or               coloring               book               and               crayons.

Have               them               put               the               puzzles               together               and               then               glue               them               to               cardboard               so               they               can               display               their               puzzle               in               their               room               as               a               poster.

Coloring               books               can               be               just               as               fun,               after               they               finish               the               pages,               rip               them               out               and               hang               them               in               the               hallway               to               create               a               gallery               of               their               work.

Great               coloring               page               printouts               can               be               found               on               numerous               sites               on               the               internet               as               well.

They               can               even               choose               themes               that               relate               to               schoolwork               they               are               doing               at               the               time.
               4.

Puppet               shows.

Who               doesn't               love               a               good               puppet               show?

Give               them               some               old               socks,               some               markers               or               stickers               and               let               them               create               their               own               puppets.

Kids               will               really               show               off               their               imaginations               with               this               one,               and               keep               each               other               amused               for               hours               creating               their               own               fictional               characters               and               story               lines.
               5.

Interactive               DVD's               or               computer               games.

Great               for               the               solitary               child               or               groups               of               children               to               keep               them               entertained.

Choose               a               dvd               or               game               based               on               the               child's               age               level.

Let               the               kids               take               turns               being               in               charge               of               the               dvd               remote               or               take               turns               on               the               computer               playing               a               game.

Older               kids               can               help               the               younger               ones               and               caregivers               can               relax               while               the               kids               amuse               themselves.

If               you               don't               own               any               kids               games               or               dvd's,               check               out               your               local               library               for               great               free               check               outs.
               6.

Exercise               class?

That's               right,               physical               education               is               a               great               way               to               spend               the               time               and               wear               off               all               that               extra               energy               that's               buzzing               around               the               house               when               kids               can't               get               outside               to               run               it               off.

Put               on               a               music               CD               or               DVD               and               just               let               the               kids               go               crazy,               dancing,               turning,               simple               exercises.

This               not               only               will               keep               them               entertained,               but               may               just               wind               them               down               for               a               chance               of               a               nap               and               quiet               time               for               an               adult               to               get               other               things               done.
               7.

Play               dress-up.

Give               them               some               old               clothes,               shoes               or               purses               and               let               them               play               dress-up.

Got               any               old               Halloween               costumes?

Throw               them               into               the               mix.

What's               the               use               of               saving               an               outfit               they               can               only               wear               once?

Let               them               have               fun               dressing               up               and               acting               out               characters.

Kid's               will               use               their               imagination               to               create               any               number               of               characters               and               act               out               some               interesting               stories               if               they               are               allowed               to               let               their               imagination               run               wild.

Groups               of               children               may               enjoy               creating               a               play               with               their               new               characters,               acting               out               a               scene               from               a               movie               or               cartoon               or               even               making               up               their               own.

Give               them               a               few               over               sized               jackets               and               some               costume               jewelry               and               watch               your               house               turn               into               center               stage.
               8.

Line               games.

Remember               those               old               classics               like               Simon               says,               Red               rover               and               London               bridge?

Games               like               these               can               be               played               inside               just               as               easily               as               outside.

Let               the               kids               take               turns               on               choosing               a               game               and               make               sure               they               have               an               open               area               to               play               in.
               9.

Explorers!

Yes               the               kids               will               become               their               own               brand               of               Columbus               or               Marco               Polo               with               this               fun               and               educational               project.

Give               them               a               map               and               let               them               discover               a               new               country               or               "buried               treasure".

Older               kids               may               enjoy               looking               up               some               place               they               may               want               to               go               in               an               encyclopedia               or               online.

Have               them               write               about               what               they               will               see               and               do               there.

Younger               kids               will               enjoy               drawing               pictures               of               their               new               country               make               believe               or               real,               and               other               ideas               can               be               incorporated               into               this               one               like               dressing               up               in               the               countries               style,               planning               a               vacation               there,               or               writing               a               story               about               it.

This               project               is               limitless               as               to               how               far               the               kids               can               take               it.
               10.

Treasure               hunts.

Have               the               kids               stay               in               one               room               while               an               adult               goes               through               the               house               and               hides               ordinary               household               objects.

Then               give               them               a               list               and               let               them               spend               the               hours               trying               to               find               all               of               the               treasures.

Make               prize               bags               with               little               treats               for               the               ones               who               find               the               most,               team               up               larger               groups               of               children.
               11.

Home               made               craft               projects.

Turn               trash               into               treasures               with               a               little               glitter,               glue               and               construction               paper.

Old               oat               meal               boxes,               cereal               boxes               or               other               objects               can               be               turned               into               fascinating               works               of               art               with               just               a               little               glue               and               colored               paper.

Let               the               kids               choose               what               to               make.

Holiday               ornaments,               hand               puppets,               pencil               holders               are               just               a               few               ideas.

There               are               a               million               internet               sites               from               which               to               glean               information               on               these               projects               and               it               will               keep               the               kids               busy               for               hours.
               12.

Hobbies.

Introduce               the               kids               to               a               new               hobby               or               let               them               work               on               one               they               already               have.

Scrap-booking,               sewing,               and               collecting               are               all               great               hobbies               for               kids               and               will               give               them               something               that               is               personally               interesting               for               them               to               entertain               themselves               with               on               rainy               days.
               These               are               just               a               few               ideas               to               keep               kids               entertained               on               a               rainy               day.

Kid's               don't               have               to               have               the               latest               technological               gadgets               to               have               fun.

Try               one               of               these               ideas               or               a               combination               of               them               and               see               how               the               hours               seem               to               fly               by.

Not               only               will               the               kids               have               fun,               but               they               will               have               memories               that               will               last               a               lifetime.
