Today I will be teaching you how to make a chess board in Photoshop. This is a great lesson for anyone who likes to play chess. This lesson can be done in Photoshop 6.0 and above. To begin open a new file. To open a new file click on the top menu bar. Click on file and then new. Let's make the size of this file 400 by 500 pixels. Next we need to switch to RGB mode. You need to be in RGB mode to see any color on your project. Click on the menu bar at the top of the program. Click on image, image mode, and then RGB mode. You are now working in RGB mode. Next create a new layer to work with. Set your foreground color to black. Click on the shape tool and select the rectangle tool. Click and drag to create the basic shape of the chess board. Next create a new layer to work with. Click on the shape tool and select the rectangle tool. Next change your foreground to black. Click and drag to make the tiny black squares on the chess board. After you create one you can make more. Click on and select the move tool. Next click and drag while down the alt key to make a copy of the black square. Keep repeating this process until you have filled the whole board with black and white squares. The next step is to make the board come to life. Now that you have created the basic shape of your board we can start making it come to life. Click the layer that has the main shape of your board on it. Next click on layer, layer style, and then bevel and emboss. Set the style to inner bevel and the technique to smooth. Next set the depth to 171% and the direction to up. Finally set the size to 10 px and the soften to 1 px. Click ok once you have added all these settings. Next click and create a new layer to work with. Set your foreground color to white. Next click and select the rectangle tool. Click and drag to create a square on the chess board. Next click layer, layer style, and then stroke. Put a black stroke on the square. Next click and drag while holding down alt to make copies of the white square. Keep repeating the process until you have evening filled the board with squares.
