Chances are, you've been there: your second cousin comes to your housewarming and brings a toaster… or more specifically, the toaster you gave her two Christmases ago. Your cousin has regifted. The word "regift" was popularized by the classic New York sitcom Seinfeld. To regift means to take something you've received as a present and give it as a present to somebody else. And so, unwanted gifts wander the earth, going from one person who has no use for them to another. But with a little thought and consideration, you can make sure your friends and relatives never regift the presents you gave them. Give your loved ones original, lovingly selected gifts - without breaking your wallet. B&G Gifts 624 Brighton Beach Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11235 (718) 332-3800 With its retro '70s feel (waist-high porcelain tigers and velvet armchairs shaped like a hand), and its location in the heart of Brighton Beach Avenue, a retail mecca in Brooklyn, New York, B&G Gifts is the perfect store if you are looking for a snazzy present for that special someone with far out tastes. While being flashy and funny, useful but unique items line its shelves: abstract vases, gold-painted china, and strange floor lamps that would look at home on the set of Star Trek. Priced in the mid-range, this store offers amazing treasures for that kooky friend who will appreciate a gift that stands out. Trash & Vaudeville 4 St. Marks Place New York, NY 10003 (212) 982-3590 Located smack dab in the middle of New York City's punk-glam neighborhood - the East Village - Trash and Vaudeville is your store if you're looking for a gift for your disaffected nephew who's just discovered The Sex Pistols, his sister whose room is adorned with Marilyn Manson pinups, or their nostalgic father who still hasn't cut that receding, flowing long hair. All leather and ripped band shirts, army boots painted in the colors of the British flag, and coffin-shaped purses, Trash and Vaudeville provides an unforgettable shopping experience as a giftstore that carries beautifully troubling stuff in every price range. Kalinka Gifts 402 Brighton Beach Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11235 (718) 743-4546 This small store is overfilled with beautiful treasures, from hand-crafted Russian malachite to exquisite Italian Murano glass. This place is perfect if your friend or relative loves to decorate her house with crafts from around the world. Priced in the mid- to high range, Kalinka carries gorgeous gifts for people with an eye for beauty, from tastefully understated to opulently colorful. Vicky Garin Gift Shop 3100 Ocean Parkway Brooklyn, NY 11235 (718) 714-6830 If you're looking for an upscale wedding present or a gift for your boss, the Vicky Garin Gift Shop in Brooklyn's famous Ocean Ave area is the store for you. This place isn't cheap - but it will give you a bang for your buck. Filled with original paintings, one-of-a-kind Murano sculptures, hand-carved chess sets and Versaci accessories, the Vicky Garin Gift Shop gives you a chance to impress. Aqueduct Flea Market Rockaway Boulevard and 88th Street Ozone Park, NY 11416 (718) 738-9571 Open only in the summer, this makeshift, open-air flea market located on a huge lot in New York City's suburb is a treasure trove for the money-conscious shopper. Here, you can find gifts for all occasions, from stainless steel kitchenware for the cook in the family to a set of power tools for the resident mechanic. Toys for kids of every age are displayed next to top-line electronics; jewelry is up for sale next to clothes. You'll find few unusual gifts here: this is the place for all things useful and common. Sure you've seen all these items before - but the vendors of the Aqueduct Flea Market will bet that you've never seen them quite so cheap. |

One of the things that keeps me coming back to Neopets day after day is the wide assortment of scary, spooky, haunted and creepy things. I have a large Spooky Gallery but I am always on the lookout for new things to add to it. Some of the items I have been trying to collect cost millions of points so I do have to be careful that I don't go completely crazy and tap out my funds. There are a lot of different 'dark' items to collect and no matter how my NP (neopoints) you have, it's never enough to buy every single item. I have a few friends at the site that collect other things so we often swap items but we never keep track of the amounts we spend, it all works out in the end. Haunted, spooky, creepy and dark books are always a great investment if you can buy them for a low price, hold on to them and let them increase. You never know what books will be retied but it is a safe bet that if you buy and special books given away through events at the site, you will make a huge profit on them as thee are only a limited number of them. Some books that are more than worth investing in include: "My Neighbour the Zombie", "Dark Faerie Dreams", "Morguss Spell Book", "Esophagor Pop-Up Book", "Zombie Handbook", "Curses From The Deep", "Spying The Dark Faerie Way", "Webs of Death", "Zombie Grave" and " Zombie Legends' While pretty much all of the morphing potions at the site could be considered spooky to some degree there are some that just stand out as stellar. One of my favorites is the "Halloween Korbat Morphing Potion", the look of it is utterly creepy! Likewise the Halloween Blumaroo Morphing Potion" and " Darigan Eyrie Morphing Potion" are also sinister looking. There are a ton of morphing potions to choose from but they are all in high demand. There are some common ones in the 15K range that you can use to get the avatar but for the most part they are an expensive habit to indulge in. Even though the Nimmo isn't one of my favorites, the "Halloween Nimmo Morphing Potion" is one of my all time favorite potion bottles. The NeoMall requires that you buy a NeoCash card in order to make purchases. The items are only retained for a certain period of time then they are returned to the mall but you can opt to buy them again. One of the recent seasonal items was the Halloween Mystery Capsule. You could open it to get special NC items but it was never disclosed at to whether these were items that you would get to keep or not. The griming pumpkin design was almost too much for me to handle and I was tempted to buy another NeoCash card but opted to pass. Please remember, items purchased at the Mall are not permanent so before you drop a ton of cash on buying the cards (available at Limited II and Target) to get the points to buy the items, you won't be able to keep them forever. One thing that you will definitely want to fin, buy or collect are the pieces of the "Spooky Treasure Map"; there are nine total and the prices can range from 4,000 to 5,000 NP depending on the time of year. These are given out as random events and from time to time you can come across them extremely cheap on the Shop Wizard if a newbie has no clue what they are worth. You can cash them in for some cool prize and NP or use them in a gallery, the choice is up to you. I redeemed one set and got some nice haunted items and about three thousand NP but you never know what you are going to get or if it will be worth it. So you have a NeoHome but don't know what to put in it? There are tons of spooky, creepy and haunted things that you can buy at the site. In the Mutant series you can get a desk, drawer, lamp, rug, table and rocking chair but they all pretty much look the same so it's great if you want a room full of green somewhat slimy looking things. The Esophagor series has the same items as the Mutant line but also has a cool bean bag, shelf unit, bath tub and alarm clock. If caskets are your thing then you definitely have to check out the "Casket Table" and "Casket Bookcase" but one of the coolest items is the "Double Coffin Wardrobe" but I do have to admit that the "Darigan Wardrobe" is positively wicked looking. If you are going for a slightly girlie look you can check out what the Dark Faerie has in store for you. The coolest piece in this collection is the "Dark Faerie Canopy Bed" but you can also get the "Dark Faerie Tub", "Dark Faerie Dresser", "Dark Faerie Rug"and "Dark Faerie Sofa". Snowglobes are also a great way to add some charm to a room or a more than suitable gift for your favorite NeoFriend. Some of the darker ones include the "Luxury Dark And Earth Faerie Snowglobe", "Jhudora Snowglobe", "Darkest Faerie Snowglobe", "Luxury Dark And Light Faerie Snowglobe", "Dark Faerie Snowglobe" and the newest one, "Serene Nightscape Snowglobe". If toy collecting is your thing then you will love some of the really dark and creepy thing that the site has to offer. One thing I have been trying to get is the "Haunted Chess Set" and it would make a great companion to the "Haunted Woods Bucket & Spade Set". Another item I have been trying to get is the :Darigan Aisha Action Figure", a really nice plushie that would look great in my gallery. The "Darigan Jetsam Yoyo" and the "Vinyl Darigan JubJub" are two more of my all time favorites but the ultimate collectible has to be the "Floating Dark Faerie Sisters Doll". Some of these items are unbuyable in shops as there is a limit of pricing things at 99,999 NP so I have to look on the Trading Post or Auctions for them. There are so many awesome things at the site that buying them all is going to take me years If you are a fan of the darker things in life then Neopets has a lot to offer you in the way of 'free' things. Personally, since I started playing at the site I've spent less time shipping online and I've actually saved money getting hooked on Neopets! |
